Adding a YouTube video

Video Quality

While we support adding YouTube to TrilbyTV, when you add a video file directly to TrilbyTV we compress and store it in a way that makes it play great on TrilbyTV players. For improved quality and offline playback, we recommend adding your video files to TrilbyTV directly.

Note

YouTube is embedded as Web Content using the YouTube Embed URL. While this will play back, it is not cached, so will use more bandwidth and each player will need a good Internet connection.

Adding a YouTube video

  1. On the YouTube video, click the Share button and select Embed as the sharing option. Copy and paste the code shown on the page. An example of this is below:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZbtLXvfBZl0?si=JZ5S3cO6uKMuW_F7&amp;controls=0" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  1. Copy the code, then click Add and select Web Content
  2. Paste your code into the text field in the content area. You do not need to make any changes to the code.

  1. Add a Title to your content and then click Save

Playback optons

You can adjust the duration for Show on player for and Start playback at to select precise moments from the YouTube video to showcase.

For a live stream, we would suggest limiting this to an hour. At this time the page would refresh and reload the stream.

Finally, approve and categorise your item as you would with any other content.

IMPORTANT

  • To support video playback, Android devices require use of the official YouTube app from the Google Play Store.
  • Android TV and the YouTube for Android TV app do not support the YouTube Player API.
  • Chrome OS/Chrome Extension does not support playback with audio. YouTube Videos added will show on Chrome devices but without audio. This limitation is enforced by the underlying Chromium Browser.
